“Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; though not seeing Him now, you believe in Him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy.” 1 Peter 1:8
Recently a wonderful sister in Christ went home to be with the Lord. She was a lovely woman who loved to worship her Savior. She would always have a smile on her face despite how she was feeling inside. She suffered from cancer for a long time, yet she would still encourage everyone around. She would get up in the morning and lead worship at the Tuesday morning Bible study. She would come up to me with her big smile and say, “What Word do you have for me today Pastor Frank!” Despite suffering from her cancer, and knowing she would soon be leaving behind everyone she loved, this dear sister still had an inexpressible joy.
What is joy? Well, if you have been in church long enough you have heard pastors say it is something the world doesn’t have, nor can they take it away. But why? The Bible tells us why. It says, “In His presence is fullness of joy” Psalm 16:11. You see this godly woman, though she hadn’t physically seen Christ, she would be in His presence spending time with Him daily in His Word. Although she hadn’t seen Him, she trusted in Him. She rejoiced over Him in song. When you have a relationship with Jesus like our dear sister had, you will experience inexpressible joy. Joy is a wonderful satisfaction. It simply means that you are no longer looking for anything else to fulfill you. She had this! This is why the world doesn’t have joy, because the world is not in His presence. It’s completely void of Him in darkness. Ephesians 5
If you find yourself today lacking inexpressible and glorious joy, I want to ask you, when was the last time you spent quality (not quantity) time with your Savior? When was the last time you sat in His presence and took in His Word? If you want to have joy, get in His presence today! Allow Him to speak to your heart. Let His Word permeate your spirit and you will find satisfaction in Him. I will greatly miss my dear sister as many will, but I am so blessed knowing that she is finally with Jesus. She is face to face with her Redeemer, worshiping Him this very moment! “I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.” John 15:11
