“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.”
In troubled times of discouragement have you ever found yourself with the question, “what is happening?” David was experiencing a time of chastening by the Lord and was tempted to complain about his situation. In Psalm 39:1 David responded by saying, “I will guard my way, lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, while the wicked are before me.”
Sinning with our tongue is a cancer to our spirit and to our character as it destroys our integrity. James 3:8 says, “but no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison, with it we bless our God and Father and with it we curse men.” Instead of dumping emotional and spiritual poison on those who listen to us, why not purpose in our hearts not to succumb to the temptation of venting our discouragement. We are best to remember Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”
Life is too short – it is just a vapor. May God help us to realize this truth and may the Lord Jesus Christ continue to fight our battles for us.
Jesus loves you,
