PASTORS PERSPECTIVE

Social Media and our Next Generation

It is amazing to me how incredibly fast social media has taken over. From 2004 when Facebook was introduced and reached 1 million users, to just last year’s figures have now reached 1.1 billion people using Facebook monthly. Facebook has opened the door for other social media websites or phone apps that are seriously affecting our youth.

Although the Bible may not specifically mention social media, it has a lot to say about social media. The Bible is relevant for every area of our life. Peter writes in his last letter that God’s, “divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.”

Church, we have a responsibility to display the glory and excellence of our great God to our world. You may not use social media, but I promise you that you know someone who does. You have friends, children, and grandchildren that may be addicted on social media that you will be discipling in Christ.

One of my favorite prayers of Paul is found in Philippians 1:9-11, “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

This is my prayer for you. I desire for your love to abound more and more. I want you to grow in your love for God and for His people and especially for our children, who are the next generation.

Now, Go Serve Your King,

Pastor Joe Mendez
