PASTORS PERSPECTIVE

Fearing Is Not Believing

“After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” Genesis 15:1

I remember the bus ride from Xalapa to the airport in Veracruz on the day my family and I returned to the U.S. It was one of the most terrifying days. Fear gripped my heart, not only fearing for my life and the life of my family, but I doubted that we would make it to California. Later that day, the Lord spoke to me His famous and often said words, “Do not be afraid.”

When we fear, we are not believing. When we walk in fear, we are not walking by faith. So, it is critical for us to recognize fear in our hearts and deal with it asap. First by confessing to the Lord, “Forgive me Lord for not trusting You. Forgive me Lord for worrying about this thing or that thing.” Then, simply remember who God is. God is your shield. He is your protector. God’s got your back. God is also your exceedingly great reward. He is your provider. God has given you everything in His Son Jesus Christ. Meditate on these great truths today.

God says to His children, “Do not be afraid.” Believe Him, trust His word and you will experience the peace of God that will replace the fear in your heart. That puts us in a perfect position to bear witness to the world. Tell them why you’re not afraid, tell them who your God is, tell them what Jesus has done for you that it may bring glory to God!
