PASTORS PERSPECTIVE

June Gloom Is Upon Us, But The Son Is Always There!

“And, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. “ Amen Matthew 28:20

During the drive to church, both Ally and I were complaining about how gloomy the morning was. The grey clouds that last mid-day, or even full day, could really put a drag in your step. This weather makes you want to stay home, not go to work, church, outside, etc. It’s strange how the gloomy weather could really affect your mood and perspective of the day. As we were driving, we hit a spot when the sun “peeked” out. Ally said, “come on sun, come out, break through the clouds.” This was my opportunity to be spiritual and turn the moment into a Bible study.

The sun is always there. It doesn’t re-locate or hide behind the clouds. We often refer to it as the “sun peeking out” or “breaking through the clouds” as if the clouds actually had influence on the sun and its brilliance.

This is true even of our Christian walk. Life can be gloomy, dark, and grey. We could allow for the gloom of life to affect us: our personalities, emotions, and perspectives. We often convince ourselves that the clouds of life actually have influence over the “Son.” See, just like the “sun” on a gloomy day, the “Son” doesn’t go anywhere. He’s there in all His brilliance, power, and presence. We might get a glimpse of Him and say, “oh, He’s peeking out at me, stay Lord, stay!” Well… tell yourself today, you don’t have to plead for Him to stay. He’s already there! In His Fulness! Sometimes the clouds stay a little longer than we hope, but rest assuredly, He is above them, in full brilliance.

“ Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yeildeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” Hebrews 12:11
