THE RIGHT ATTITUDE AND INTENT, IN SEARCHING THE WORD
In John 5:39-40 Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
Jesus here, is rebuking the religious Jews as He reveals their attitude and intent upon searching the scriptures… these, sought the scriptures, only as a means of personal gain and achievement, instead of seeking the Author who is the “Eternal Life” they sought only those things that would benefit and exalt their superficial religious lifestyle.
Now, In Acts 17:10-12a you read about the right attitude and intent upon those who also searched the scriptures. Luke writes, “Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed,
As these Bereans searched with the right attitude and intent, they came to the understanding that Jesus is the Author and that in Him is Eternal Life.
