THE POWER OF A HUMBLE HEART

“I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”  Luke 18:13

It’s all about attitude. God cares more about your heart than your words. You can pray every day, say all the right things, and still miss the point if your attitude is wrong. Prayer isn’t about showing off—it’s about being real with God.

In Luke 18, Jesus tells a story about two men who prayed. The Pharisee, a religious leader, said, “God, thank You that I’m not like other people—cheaters, sinners, or even that tax collector. I fast twice a week and give money to the temple.” He was bragging to God, acting like he was better than everyone else. The tax collector prayed, “God, please have mercy on me. I’m a sinner.” He didn’t brag. He admitted his need for God’s help.

Who do you think God listened to? Jesus said the tax collector went home forgiven. The Pharisee didn’t. Why? Because God values humility, not pride.

Your attitude can make or break your prayer. If you come to God proud and self-centered, your prayer won’t get far. But if you come humble—honest about your need for Him—God hears you.

Before you pray today, pause and check your attitude. Are you trying to impress God—or just be honest with Him?

In Christ,
